Karel Van Eeckhoutte

Karel has been working at Smals for more than 15 years in several leading roles related to business analysis and software development for the public sector, mainly social security institutions. Currently, he is strongly involved in synergy initiatives between public institutions that are part of the G-Cloud community.

As one of the founders of ICT-reuse.be, the software platform for smart makers of reusable software, Karel aims at connecting people and finding ways to shorten time-to-market or reducing ICT project costs. In June 2019, the European Commission acknowledged the software reuse initiative in the Belgian Health sector with the European Sharing & Reuse Award for Shared IT services with the biggest impact on citizens or businesses.

Facing complex business challenges and getting in touch with stakeholders keeps him motivated. He is convinced that by understanding the real business needs and being open to alternative, reusable and innovative solutions, great value can be achieved for the end users.

Karel gets his job satisfaction from working closely with his colleagues at Smals. So many nice and talented people working together, makes a real difference for society.
